Study hypothesis:Studies investigating the efficacy of SEROQUEL in the treatment of movement disorders are warranted.
METHODS
We conducted a randomized, placebo-controlled, controlled trial (N=934) conducted at the Department of Neurology of the National University of Singapore.
SEROQUEL (quetiapine) is an atypical antipsychotic agent used to treat several mental disorders. Quetiapine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor that is commonly used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of SEROQUEL in the treatment of movement disorders.
Study participants were between 18 and 55 years of age. They had to be treated for a minimum of 12 weeks with Quetiapine in a dose of 25 mg or 50 mg per day. The study was performed in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and local laws and regulations.
Study design
Randomization was carried out in two stages, with the first stage included a computer-generated allocation, followed by the second stage by a randomization check. Patients who met the following inclusion criteria and were willing to participate in the study were assigned to SEROQUEL or placebo.
Inclusion criteria
Patients with a mental disorder and movement disorder; patients with movement disorders who received Quetiapine for at least one year; and patients with a history of drug abuse. Patients with schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, or dementia were excluded from the study. Patients who had a history of drug abuse or psychosis, or had a history of substance abuse were excluded from the study.
Exclusion criteria
Patients with a history of substance abuse or psychosis; patients with a history of substance abuse, or a history of drug abuse; or a history of drug abuse that occurred in the previous six months was excluded. Patients who had a history of substance abuse were excluded. Patients who did not meet the criteria for inclusion were also excluded.

Study protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the National University of Singapore and the study was conducted in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from the patients, and the study was carried out in accordance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.
